For jewelry retouching, we are using special jewelry retouching techniques. It is usually impossible to just put a raw photo of jewelry on the website. Especially if you take jewelry photography on a white background with lighting etc. It is very hard to achieve a perfect look of jewelry. That is why jewelry retouch techniques need to be used.
Every advanced jewelry retoucher relies on his design tools. That includes in most cases Photoshop software, powerful computer, and some design pad for example. But for jewelry retouching sometimes using just a mouse and not a design pen tablet is just enough.

New jewelry retouching techniques
Updating skills and knowledge is our priority. Using old photoshop skills is not practiced in our jewelry retouching studio. We witnessed the progression of jewelry retouching through last 15 years.
First, we just did a cutout with photoshop about 15 years ago. At the same time, we also sharpened the images a bit and cloned out some artifacts. We also added simple reflection. We used Photoshop 3 if I remember correctly. Jewelry images were much smaller back then. The resolution of each image was maximum 1200 px if I remember correctly.
In next few years, we progressed fast as the market was demanding better and better images. We started using practically all jewelry retouching techniques in Photoshop. That includes smudge, color balance, unsharp mask, filters, we have like 50 different photoshop actions etc….
Currently, we are using around 30 different photoshop jewelry techniques. Even shadows of our jewelry items progressed drastically. It is not enough to just make simple reflection like few years back. Now our shadow usually consists of 5 parts like in this sample.
Jewelry retouching techniques in the past
I wanted to show you what kind of jewelry images did we receive 8 years ago. For example, this one had a really bad quality. You could not do something that would be appealing to customers…..
I wonder what will we do in 10 or 20 years. I am sure the images would be super clear and crisp, much more than they are now..
